Hibox FAQ: Compatibility, Shifters & Installation
Collapsible content
Which drop bar shifters do you recommend?
Shimano and SRAM both work well. Shimano shifters require less force when shifting from the hoods, while SRAM has a shorter lever throw when shifting from the drops. It depends on your preference.
What has been improved from Hibox C1 to Hibox C2?
- Larger gear wheel → less dead travel
- Increased module size
- Improved durability
- Easier installation
- Reduced size and weight
Can I also use SRAM GX or NX shifters?
Yes, but with limitations:
- You can only shift one gear at a time
- You'll need both a left and a right shifter
- The shifters need to be modified

My crank touches the Hibox. What should I do?
Older CNC-machined Pinion cranks can sit very close to the HIBOX and may touch it. According to our experience as a dealer, forged Pinion cranks are not affected. Correct axial crank positioning according to Pinion’s instructions is essential.
- Tighten the centre screw to 10 Nm.
- The remaining 1–2 mm of axial movement on the input shaft is normal and no reason for concern.
- Pull the crank fully outward to the stop.
- Then tighten both clamp screws alternately and in stages to 6 Nm each.
This positions the crank correctly and maximises clearance to the HIBOX.

Can I combine the Hibox C2 with mechanical brakes?
Yes, absolutely! It works with SRAM mechanical shift-brake levers (brifters) without any extra parts — just a small modification is needed. The required steps are explained in detail at: gebla.de/.
Can I combine the Hibox Trigger with Rohloff (Gebla Rohbox) ?
No, the use with Gebla Rohbox is not recommended and its getting uncomfortable over the time, due to much higher shift forces needed.
