Titanium Bikes & Custom Frames: FAQ

Planning a titanium bike or a custom frame? Here are direct answers about geometry, equipment, ordering and service at HILITE Bikes in Basel.

Custom titanium frames and complete bikes

What is the difference between a frame and a complete bike?

A frame is the basis for your build; a complete bike includes the agreed components. Check the product description and your quotation to see whether the fork, drivetrain, wheels and other parts are included.

How much does a custom titanium frame cost?

The price depends on the frame design, manufacturing options and equipment. Frame and complete-bike prices are different. Current product pages provide an initial guide; we prepare an individual quotation for your agreed specification. Explore custom titanium frames.

How does ordering a custom bike work?

We start with your intended use, riding position, body measurements and equipment wishes. We then agree on geometry, drivetrain and the build specification. Before ordering, we clarify the scope, price and expected production schedule with you. Discuss your bike with us.

How do you determine the geometry and riding position?

We consider your measurements, intended use, preferred position and experience with your current bike. For 3D bike fitting, HILITE works with Crossklinik in Basel. This specialist fitting is carried out by our partner.

How long does a custom build take?

Lead time depends on the frame design, production workload and component availability. We discuss the expected schedule for your specific build before you order; there is no single delivery time for every custom bike.

Drivetrain and equipment

Should I choose Pinion or Rohloff?

Pinion places the gearbox at the bottom bracket; the Rohloff SPEEDHUB has 14 gears in the rear hub. The right choice depends on riding conditions, luggage, required gear range, wheel service and shifting preferences. Read our Pinion vs. Rohloff comparison.

Can I combine Pinion or Rohloff with a Gates belt?

Yes, with a compatible frame and drivetrain. A belt replaces the chain; it is not a gearbox. Frame opening, belt line and tensioning must suit the build. See how Pinion, Rohloff and Gates fit together.

Can I ride a Pinion bike with drop bars?

Selected mechanical Pinion gearboxes can be used with compatible brake/shift levers through Hibox. Hibox C2 is for the C-Line and Hibox P1 for the P-Line. Shifter model and required modifications must be checked. Explore Hibox. Read the Hibox FAQ.

Can you include racks, bottle mounts or a different finish?

We discuss mounting points, luggage, tyre clearance and frame finish when planning the build. Tube choices, dropouts, axle standards and special options must be agreed as part of the specification. See examples of HILITE builds.

Care, service and advice

Does a titanium bike still need maintenance?

Yes. The frame, drivetrain, brakes, bearings and fastening points need regular inspection and care. Follow the component manufacturers’ service instructions. A belt does not need chain lubricant, but it still needs correct alignment, tension and inspection.

Can a damaged titanium frame be repaired?

Repair options depend on the damage, its location and the frame construction. Send us photos and the bike details so we can assess the next step. A repair cannot be promised before inspection.

What frame warranty do you offer?

HILITE frames come with a 10-year guarantee. Contact us with questions about your specific frame or a warranty claim.
