Our Journey into 3D-printing English

3D-printed titanium bicycle frame by HILITE

Titanium combines strength, low weight, corrosion resistance and a refined ride quality. Conventional framebuilding uses machined components joined to tubes, which limits some shapes. Additive manufacturing gives us more freedom to design parts around the required geometry, load paths and manufacturing process.

Advantages of 3D printing

Design freedom is the main advantage. We can shape junctions to match the exact frame geometry and reinforce the areas where loads are highest. On this frame, the seat-tube and top-tube junction became cleaner and more integrated, while an internal seat clamp replaced the larger external component.

The process still requires careful engineering, testing and precise welding. We use it where it creates a clear functional or construction benefit.
