The First Mahle X20 System SmartBike Tandem in the world

This is the world’s first tandem built with the Mahle X20 SmartBike system. The customer wanted a light tandem with enough assistance for occasional climbs. At 3.2 kg for the complete drive system and with little resistance when switched off, the X20 allows the tandem to ride naturally on flat terrain. After almost 1,000 km, the customer confirmed that it rolls well without motor assistance.

The tandem uses 50 mm tyres on 27.5-inch rims for a low, stable frame and additional comfort. A Schmidt Edelux DC 170 light is powered by the Mahle system, so no hub dynamo is required. The custom frame uses thru-axles and Boost spacing, together with a specially developed and tested tandem carbon fork.

A SRAM GX AXS drivetrain completes the build. Including pedals, the tandem weighs 21 kg.
