Our customer approached us with the request for a very light tandem with enough torque for (rare) climbs. The Mahle X20 was chosen because of its light overall weight of only 3.2 kg, but also because of the very low resistance when the drive is not engaged. This means that the tandem can be ridden like a normal tandem on flat terrain without the drive. As the Stocker can hardly or not at all contribute any propulsion for health reasons, support is therefore necessary on climbs. After almost 1000km, this has also been confirmed by the customer that the tandem can be moved very nicely without engaging the drive.

The tandem rolls on 50 mm tires and 27.5 inch rims, making the frame slightly lower, more stable and more comfortable. The Schmidt Edelux DC 170 e-bike lighting is controlled directly via the Mahle system and does not require an additional hub dynamo.

The X20 system is the latest system from Mahle and impresses with the beautiful integration of the system (main connection cable integrated in the derailleur hanger, battery, charging port and on/off switch also integrated) and we were able to combine it with a thru axle and Boost axle, which is an advantage on a tandem. The frame was built to measure, based on customer specifications. We also fitted our own tandem carbon fork, which has been successfully tested for the high load requirements.

For the drivetrain we chose a SRAM GX AXS eTap single-speed groupset, which we think is perfect for a tandem. The final weight. The final weight, including pedals, is just 21 kg. We wish you great tours with this fast bullet.
